Open Mic Coffee House – EXPRESSIONS of HOPE and RESILIENCE IN HARD TIMES

May 21 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$10 – $100

Underground Railroad Education Center is excited to host it’s third Open Mic Coffee House where community members near and far can share expressions of hope and resilience.

Motivated by the challenges faced through the pandemic, overt racism, horrific weather conditions, challenges to voting rights, challenges to our democracy, the May Open Mic Coffee House offers an opportunity to bring forward the hopeful, resilient voices of people from around the world.

This relaxing and community focused evening brings us together to be uplifted, strengthened, and celebrated. You can choose to participate as a performer or simply sit back and enjoy our wonderfully talented friends and neighbors!

Performances run from 7pm-8pm and coffee house style conversation runs from 8pm-8:30pm. All proceeds from ticket sales go to  Underground Railroad Education Center!

Would you like to join the performance lineup? Please read Some Details for Performers below. Please note the May 19  deadline for submission of recorded performances.

Some Details for Performers — —

— Performances are donated service

— Performances are 5 minutes in length

— We ask each performer to provide beforehand a video of the performance which is what we actually show at the coffee house so as to ensure that we avoid the vagaries of zoom and technology, and

— We ask each performer to attend the coffee house if possible so as to introduce the shared piece

— Once you have been approved as a performer (use this link to submit your request), video recordings will need to be uploaded by May 19 with performer name and name of piece to a link via a follow-up email.

Attendees and performers are invited to ‘hang around’ after performances end to chat for a bit and just enjoy each other’s company as we would do at an in-person coffee house.
