The majority of redware/earthenware pieces were plain, without designs, because they were not seen regularly outside of the kitchen. These pieces were most likely used by the Myers for cooking and mixing. Earthenware was glazed because it stopped leakage, which could occur over time. Earthenware was inexpensive compared to decorated vessels.
