The Underground Railroad Education Center (UREC) dives deep into the history of the Underground Railroad, shedding light on its roots in African American history
and its enduring significance. Founded by passionate researchers, UREC has been sharing this vital narrative since 2003 through various channels like conferences, tours, and media features. By focusing on local Black activists and their global impact, UREC paints a powerful picture of the fight for freedom. They aim to expand their reach and impact with a dedicated Interpretive Center. Currently housed in the Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence, a renowned Underground Railroad site, UREC seeks to enhance their programming and community engagement.

As UREC continues its mission, we invite you to join us in building a better tomorrow.

The Interpretive Center, slated for Livingston Avenue in Albany’s Arbor Hill neighborhood, will not only serve as a hub for education and events but also as a catalyst for local development. It’s designed to be environmentally friendly, offering job opportunities and housing while attracting visitors from near and far. With plans for state-of-the-art facilities and a commitment to sustainability, theInterpretive Center aims to honor the past while shaping a more equitable future.
