The UGRR in Dutchess County

May 13, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

In the middle decades of the 18th Century, the Oblong Meeting at Pawling – along with other Quaker communities – were spreading across eastern Dutchess County and points beyond. The area would go on to boast the largest settlement of Quakers outside of Philadelphia. Almost from the beginning, these Quakers found themselves at the forefront of the slavery-antislavery debate and the Underground Railroad. Mr. Bunten will explore some of the cultural and political aspects of this development, which link our local history to national events.

Watch this at facebook.com/pawlinghistory, Thursday, May 13th at 7:30pm. You do not need a Facebook account, and the lecture is free.
