ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — The Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence, first home to African American boat captain John Johnson, now stands as the Underground Railroad Education Center.

Through interactive exhibits, educational programs and community outreach initiatives, the Underground Railroad Education Center brings to life the stories of abolitionists, freedom seekers and the network of individuals who risked everything to help others escape the bonds of slavery.

Founders Paul and Mary Liz Stewart recounts the history of the center and how it serves as a vital resource for understanding the Underground Railroad’s impact on New York State and beyond:
