Join with Underground Railroad Education Center and the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region in raising funds to support the work of both organizations. Join with us to step up\, step off\, and make a difference! \nWhy this partnership? The partnership of UREC and YWCA-GCR highlights the vital need to preserve African American history and understand the Capital Region’s involvement in the Underground Railroad movement\, while promoting systemic solutions and institutional changes facing women and girls of Color today. Both organizations promote equity\, justice and freedom for all. It is vital that now\, more than ever\, truth\, history\, and justice are honored and fought for. \nWhy April 27? It was on April 27\, 1860 that freedom seeker Charles Nalle was rescued from the clutches of a US Commissioner and proslavery forces in Troy\, New York. This rescue occurred outside the US Commissioners office which was located in the building standing across the street from the YMCA-GCR building in Troy. \nFrom Where Will We be Rappelling? With the supervision of professional Over the Edge rappellers we will rappel from the roof of the YWCA-GCR located at 21 First Street in Troy\, New York. Folks who are differently abled are welcome to join in. Adults 18 years of age and older are welcome to join in. \nWhether you participate solo or rally friends\, coworkers\, family\, or a local club to form a team\, this is an unforgettable way to give back.
