DESCRIPTION:Often remembered as being characterized by tunnels\, dark of night escapes\, coded language and hidey-holes\, the Underground Railroad was far more extensive and complex than these ideas have led us to believe. \nAs the first integrated civil rights movement in the country\, the Underground Railroad movement is the foundation of the legacy of emancipation history that includes Emancipation Day 1862\, Juneteenth 1865\, The Niagara Movement 1905\, Brown v Board of Education 1954\, Freedom Rides 1961\, Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March 1965\, among others. \nJoin Paul and Mary Liz Stewart\, independent researchers and Co-founders of Underground Railroad Education Center\, as they bring their seminal research on the Underground Railroad movement and its relationship with us today to the East Greenbush Library.
