SUMMARY:Capital District Humanist Society at The Myers Residence
DESCRIPTION:Members of The Capital District Humanist Society will join with Paul and Mary Liz Stewart for an in-person two hour tour experience at The Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence to learn about the involvement of Albany’s Black activists in the Underground Railroad movement and the contemporary relevance of that activism with us today. \n  \nTour Experience Description – ‘Meet’ local Black Abolitionists and Freedom Seekers whose voices have been reclaimed as part of the Underground Railroad narrative. Enjoy a hands-on experience with period artifacts. Analyze period documents which relate an account different from the standard Underground Railroad narrative. Step back in time with period attire. Explore how the Underground Railroad movement relates to our justice concerns for today and how many of the issues faced by abolitionists and freedom seekers are still with us today.  \nTime – 1pm-3pm\n\nCost per person – $15\n\nRain Date – bring an umbrella/raincoat as we will spend some of the tour time outside on The Myers Residence Campus\n\nCOVID protocols – masks at all times / social distancing / sign in on a paper form that confirms one is safely healthy and which provides contact information if needed – UREC pen used to complete form goes with guest  / hand sanitizer available to be used before tour begins and throughout tour as desired /\n\nAccessibility – there is a lift at the back entrance to The Myers Residence and 8 stairs to the front entrance / there are interior stairs to the 2nd and 3rd floors
