July 4 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Join with Paul Stewart, Co-founder of Underground Railroad History Project and Scholar-in-Residence at Russell Sage College, as Paul enlightens us with a presentation on Stephen Myers perspective on the issues of the antebellum period. Myers and Douglass, whose 1852 speech frames the July 4th Oration, did engage in some cantankerous repartee.

Co-presenter Janine Moon will share remarks on some recently uncovered documented information and artifacts about Dr. Thomas Elkins, medical doctor, abolitionist, and colleague of Stephen Myers, explaining hows these developments influence our expanding knowledge of Underground Railroad history and its relationship with us today.

11am – Welcome, volunteer award, presentation, conversation in the Myers Residence back yard. Parking on Third Street and entering the Myers Residence Campus from Third Street is advisable.

12pm – Lunch will be held on the Dr. Thomas Elkins property.  Hot dogs, hamburgers, condiments, and drinks will be provided.
